Hello everyone!!!!
…and
welcome to the first ever (at least to my knowledge) Music Box Dinner Playhouse
“Musings of the President” blog. One
thing that I am VERY proud of at The Music Box is how connected and familial we
are with our patrons and actors. It is
an absolute pleasure seeing all of you at our shows, as well as working with
some of you in shows, but I was looking for a way to connect with you, and even
more people, outside of the time when we’re performing. I figured the best way to ensure everyone
knows what is going on in the theatre and stay connected with us, even when we’re
not in production, is through weekly communication!! I hope that you find it entertaining as well
as informative and it helps your attachment and fondness for the theatre grow,
as we work together to create the art we all love!
Now on
to business!!
I wish to fully address the rumors
that currently surround our current schedule for 2015, and the fact that we may
have lost some shows. Some of our
patrons might not realize that the shows that we produce (the ones that are not
homegrown) are licensed by companies that can decide on a moment’s notice not
to allow us to do their particular show.
It happens occasionally for a variety of reasons. Unfortunately, this IS indeed the case for “Joseph
and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat” originally scheduled in our March slot. We will be unable to produce that show for
you in 2015. However, at our last board
meeting we believe to have found a suitable replacement. We will be announcing that replacement
soon. We are currently working the aforementioned
rights issues with the licensing company, and while I am VERY excited to
announce the replacement, I do not think that a blog is the proper forum to make an official
announcement. Look for that official
announcement on our website and on Facebook in the coming weeks!
I also understand that there are
rumors circulating around us also losing Grease. Please allow me to dispel those
immediately. While we are still in
discussions with the licensing company, we have not lost the rights as of
yet. Grease remains on our schedule for
September, and will remain so until we hear something definite.
…and what a schedule it is!!! There seems to be a little something for
everyone! Which creates the opportunity
to segue into my next major announcement…our full 2015 calendar is
online!!! Every show, every workshop,
every audition, every special event, every…EVERYTHING…is now at your fingertips! We will be adding more as our season
grows. We have plans to add some “One Weekend
Only” special shows, and possibly even some weekly events going forward, so
please visit our calendar often, and be on the lookout for those at…
http://www.musicbox.org/mbcalendar.htm
Additionally, if you are looking to
host a special event of your own, and you think our theater might be the
perfect place to do that, please call our offices at (570) 283-2195 and talk to
Angie or Michael, and they will connect you the right people to make your event
happen with us. Please understand that,
with our own hectic theatrical schedule, we cannot accommodate every request,
but a phone call wouldn’t hurt to see what options are available!!
Even our Board of directors is
growing!!! We would like to welcome
longtime stage mom, Kathy Thomas to our BoD.
If you see her around the theater, please congratulate her on joining
our efforts to bring you the best dinner theatre in the area.
OMG!!! OMG, YOU GUYS!!! An excellent opportunity to do that will be
this weekend when The Music Box Dinner Playhouse presents “Legally Blonde Jr.” The performances this weekend are the
culmination of weeks of hard work resulting from our Teen Academy
Workshop! These young actresses and
actors are the future of theatre in the area, and they are joined on stage by many
regulars of the Music Box, who have been mentoring these young performers. Directed by Dana Feigenblatt, who always does
wonderful work with these workshops, it is surely going be wonderful. I would like to publicly thank Dana, as well
as her crew of dedicated Players, that helped these talented young people learn
the art of stagecraft. I cannot wait to
see it this weekend! Check our calendar
for full details.
Finally, I cannot believe that we’re
not even out of October yet, and I’m getting ready to talk about
Christmas!!! What are we Macy’s? Anyway, next Monday and Tuesday we are having
AUDITIONS for “A CHRISTMAS STORY: The Musical”!!!
This is a NEPA premier, so you’ll
definitely want to come out for these auditions!!!! Based upon the famous 1983 film, all of the
wonderful things you remember form the movie are intact…the bb gun…the leg lamp…in
musical form!!! We are very excited to
be the first theater in the area to bring this show to you!!! It will be directed by Debbie Zehner, who is
making her first Music Box appearance since last year’s AMAZING, “Les
Miserables”. Please allow me to be the
first (ok..maybe not the FIRST) to say, that I am THRILLED to have her back in
the building again! Music Direction will
be handled by the wonderful Kim Crofchick …errm…Johnson… yeah…it’s going to be
a while before I get used to that.
Congratulations on your marriage, Kim!!!
Again, check our calendar for details on the auditions.
I spent a lot of time on it, so please use it!
I know that I rambled on a lot and
hit you with a massive amount of information, but it was the first blog post,
and in my defense, we DO have a lot going on this week. So I think it was digital ink well
spent.
Thank you all for your continued support,
both on stage, off stage, in our audience, and in our hearts!
See you at the theatre…save me a
seat!!
Scott Colin
President of the Board of Directors
